Well, since receiving my Xbox back from its nearly scheduled RROD and having a lot of down time recently, rather then writing on this blog being semi productive. I’ve become an achievement whore. The tell tale sign of an achievement whore is when a Xbox game goes out and rents TMNT or Avatar to get a quick 1000 gamer points.
Though is there anything wrong in being a gamer whore? I think that having achievement points actually encourages you to get more out of the game. I finished GTA IV a long time ago, but recently I picked it up again and have slowly been trudging through the other achievements like being friends with characters, races and vigilante missions.
I’m also trying new games; I rented out Viva Piñata out of curiosity and have become surprisingly addicted. One of my friends owned the game and told me it was surprisingly good so I decided to take him on his word and rent it. If you haven’t had the joy of playing this game yet, I do recommend you try it out. Especially now that the sequel, Viva Piñata – Trouble in paradise, has been announced. (more…)

It seems these days you cannot even have an orderly debate about video games without the word “Fanboy” being used. Not even the humble Screenplay blog is impervious to having it thrown back and forth. In most cases it is used as an insult, but what exactly is a fanboy? Believe it or not, the term originated back 1982 at comic conventions.
I would never consider myself a fanboy personally, though occasionally myself and a few friends rib each other about the choice of a particular title or console, it is mainly just light mocking. Recently I have been on the receiving end of a few jeers from my Playstation companions as I encountered the RRoD with my Xbox 360. However the term is thrown around a lot more in online forums, and as sarcasm is a little harder to capture in online mediums, it intensifies the debate.

In my debut as an outside linebacker playing Gridiron (American Football), I only had two words going through my head, “outside containment”, over and over. The message has finally stuck and I’m doing well, but it is amazing how this skill can be moved across to other competitive mediums. General multiplayer tactics can be found here and the “Group Kill” tactic can be found here.
The outside contain tactics function is to stop flanking and push the opponent back inside where the rest of the group can crash down on the enemy. This can work remarkably well in Halo 3 on several maps.
Let’s first take for example the Narrows map. Its 3v3 and you have the Red team crashing up the middle. By the Blue term having outside containment they can stop the assault from swinging around, they force the Red team to have to communicate which is the primary target, Blue term can close in on the assault and the Red term is prone to grenade splash damage. A group kill is a shared kill between the team; obviously the player responsible for the last bullet wins the frag and the other an assist. But in reality you are competing against a team and should be working with your team mates. You can find general multiplayer tactics here and also the outside containment tactic here
For example, Player R1 is going heads up against Player B1. The end result will be one dead and one alive, however if you include Player B2 into the mix, R1 may possibly kill B1 or B2, and then die. Or B1 and B2 will kill R1 outright whilst they both survive. It is obvious that the best possible outcome is 1 frag and no deaths on a team, by doubling your fire power you strongly increase your chances of victory. (more…)

Halo 3 has been a huge success on the Xbox 360, with many players still playing it via Xbox Live. The online multiplayer environment incorporates a ranking system where players advance in rank as they gain experience from ranked and social matches. The matchmaking system then uses this in an attempt to pair players across the globe with others of simular ranking to provide a constant competitive experience.
It can be very daunting playing online for the first time, after having played Halo 3 for sometime I will try and provide you with some basic tips below that I have found helpful. The “Group Kill” tactic can be found here and the outside containment tactic here

Obesity is a fairly strong word that can spark a number of emotional responses from denial to anger. Unfortunately it is a fast growing problem that many nations are recognising. Obesity seems to have a ‘ripple’ effect on a number of things ranging from self esteem, personal health, the economy and health care industry.
The Surgeon General (David Satcher, M.D. PhD) is quoted saying “Overweight and obesity may not be infectious diseases, but they have reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Overweight and obesity are increasing in both genders and among all population groups…… Approximately 300,000 deaths a year in this country are currently associated with overweight and obesity.”
One of the unique things about this epidemic is how industry adapts to this problem. A number of new business ideas now are arising with the sole aim to address the issue at a young age, (more…)
